MIDDLETON — Police charged a woman with prostitution at a Route 114 motel Wednesday afternoon, after being tipped to her activities by someone who saw her 6-year-old girl periodically being sent to wait outside her room in a baby sitter's car, Chief James DiGianvittorio said.
Police also allege the woman had been soliciting her services on the online classified website Craigslist, which recently pulled its "adult services" ads.
Beth Curley, 33, of 319 N. Main St. (the Candlelite Motor Inn) was arrested around 3:20 p.m. Wednesday and charged with engaging in sexual conduct for a fee and two unspecified, outstanding warrants.
She was held overnight at the Middleton police station on North Main Street and was arraigned yesterday in Salem District Court. Judge Robert Brennan set Curley's bail at $200 after she pleaded not guilty, said Steve O'Connell, spokesman for the Essex County district attorney. Bail was set low so she could appear in two other courts on the outstanding warrants, DiGianvittorio said.
