Dozens of gang members in southern California and two motel owners have been charged with running a prostitution ring that targeted young girls who had run away from home for work that prosecutors called "modern-day slavery."

According to the indictment unsealed on Monday, members of at least three Oceanside Crips gangs conspired in a sex trafficking operation that began in 2005 and was directed by senior members, including those in prison.
The prostitution ring relied heavily on the recruitment of vulnerable female minors through including MySpace, Facebook, Twitter and other social networking sites.
